The International Association for the Study of German Politics is happy to invite you to its next event under the title “Austrian Politics in Crisis. Lessons for Austria and Beyond“.

The event will take place on ZOOM on Monday 22 November 2021 at 12:00 EDT | 17:00 GMT | 18:00 CET

Following the resignation of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz after major allegations of corruption, Austrian politics again finds itself in crisis (just as it was when the ÖVP/FPÖ government collapsed in the light of the Ibiza affair). Kurz, and the organisational and programmatic renewal of the ÖVP which he led, were once held up as a model for Germany’s CDU and other rights of centre countries. This special virtual event, hosted by the International Association for the Study of German Politics, will take stock of Austrian politics at this fast-moving period, and reflect on wider lessons”.

The event will be chaired by Manes Weisskirchner (University of Oslo) and feature presentations by Monika Mühlböck (Institute of Advanced Studies, Vienna) and Marcelo Jenny (University of Innsbruck).
